We started out stripping the bike down first to go
the faring luggage compartments seat and rear fender
Then we yanked the Gas tank and the Cover that
looks like a traditional gas tank that actually covers up the air suspension
components and electronics and took a good hard look.
Doesn't a naked bike just look sexy?
We started to lay out some ideas of how the body
should look and and how to ensure air flow to the radiator so many ideas
went through our head from having a hood scoop type look or how about making
it look like a Fat body bike but decided lean is mean.
All we wanted to see stick out was the flat 4 cylinder
heads this is the signature we where looking for with out any Honda
markings most novices riders will have no idea what it is.
We created some foam forms to use as molds to
create a fiber glass body for the tank area and the side covers. We used a
Bob Tail metal fender and added 3 inches to make it wide enough this was key
for mounting a custom seat and to allow access to a custom tank that we had
to fabricate from sheet aluminum. The stock tank stuck out one side and just
would not work with what we envisioned.
With the rough panels made we started with
rebuilding and replacing all major components such as brakes wheel bearings
etc. etc. etc. what was really a cool idea is we put 6 over front fork tubes
on polished the original fork sliders and used progressive shocks to lower
the back end.
Many details had to be considered and custom fabricated be
sure to look at the photos by clicking on them as individual explanations
are contained in these photos hope you enjoy your visit to My Winigma.com
and will contact us and send photos of your wing as well as recourses and
tips you wish to share.
We took care to make it so this custom would have
all the necessary components to pass a PA State inspection Turn Signals
Lights Speedo etc.
A lot of fabrication went into this project as you
can see this is nothing like the bike we started with yet we made no major
frame modifications so it can remain titled as a 1983 Honda GL100A
